My running streak day 203

Posted by speedygeoff on Sunday, March 31, 2019 with 1 comment
A cold start to the day, but little breeze, which helped. Wearing beanie and gloves for the first time this year, I ran a comfortable 11k with Andrew. Comfortable meaning, the on-going niggles seem to be less niggly on a Sunday at last.

Here are the speedygeese who did Queanbeyan #100 parkrun on Saturday. Callum, Cookie, Thommo, Vanessa, myself, Rae, Bernado.

My running streak day 202

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, March 30, 2019 with No comments
It was Queanbeyan parkrun's #100 so I ventured across the border to participate, planning to run slowly and chat to whoever. Which is what I did. A nice slow trot in 30:25. Because of the slow pace, the hills and the concrete path didn't bother me at all. And there was cake.

An easy and relaxing run.

My running streak day 201

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, March 29, 2019 with No comments
This was another Friday when I was lacking in energy. I ran an unmotivated 3k in the afternoon, saving my energy for tomorrow, I guess.

Tomorrow Queanbeyan has its 100th parkrun and I am planning to be there for an easy run.

My running streak day 200

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, March 28, 2019 with No comments
Yep, 200. I ran 3k in the morning and completed an intense 50 minute gym circuit. Then in the evening I joined the speedygeese training group and ran another 9k, mostly slow. At speedygeese running 8 x 300m FAST with 100m walk between were Janene, Colin, Jen, Jenny, Jennie, Lisa, George, Isaac, Tori, and Andrew.

Too many "more important" people running in the wrong direction and I am somewhat relieved that we are there only for one more week until training reverts to Parliament House on Thursdays for non-daylight-saving.

my running streak day 199

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 with No comments
Today I didn't feel like running - but I still went over to Kippax before the ACT Government takes my nearest ovals away and ran 3k. I could have stayed inside, very easily. Still, 199 days!

Today's training: In the morning, a 5k run broken up by a 50 minute circuit class at the gym.
My next gym session this week: Thursday.

Here's Thach, a regular Sunday runner with the speedygeese.

My running streak day 197

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, March 25, 2019 with No comments
Monday I ran 2k in the morning, and in windy conditions another 8k at the speedygeese session, the last one at Parliament House in March. The gaggle of geese ran Rose Garden 200s for the third week, running 10 of them on 3 minutes were Rae, Tori, Ruth, Deborah, Jenny and Jennie. Running 12 of them on 2:30 were Gwen, Allie with Peach, Richard, Brownie and Michael.

The extra-long course Sunday gaggle.

My running streak day 196

Posted by speedygeoff on Sunday, March 24, 2019 with No comments
I felt in good health this morning as I ran my easy 5k recovery run at Stromlo Forest Park. Then while Andrew and Bron did a third 2.5k loop, I did some stretching and mobilising. On return they pressured me into running a 4th 2.5k with them so I did and never felt better. I don't want to overdo it, but may extend next week's target to 55k. Today, 7.5k. This week, 48.5k

At the speedygeese long run this morning: William.

My running streak day 195

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, March 23, 2019 with No comments
I set out to run a quick Ginninderra 5k parkrun. Despite getting caught behind people somewhat in the first kilometre, slowing down a bit in the 4th, and not running the uphill bits very convincingly, I ran quite a good time. With the warmup, My total was 7k for the day. It will be back to the easier grass runs for the next week.

Heading off after the start:

My running streak day 194

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, March 22, 2019 with No comments
I am still persisting running only 5k per day, though some days have been a bit longer in total. This morning I went out for an easy (but muggy) 5k run, it was nice and slow for a change compared with other runs this week. And I ran on the grass again, I am avoiding the road as much as possible (until tomorrow's parkrun), and certainly not risking injuring myself again on trails.

This hasn't happened: Strava has a record of my whole streak so far:

My running streak day 193

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, March 21, 2019 with No comments
Today I went back to the gym for a 50 minute circuit class and survived it well. Then in the evening I went to the speedygeese session at Stromlo Forest Park where, despite the downpour, I still ran 5 very quick kilometers as planned. The speedygeese who were there ran 3 x 1k fast although Jen and Dave did their own thing mostly while Jennie, Kevin, Jacob, Colin, and Paddy (new) did the whole session.

So 2k in the morning + 5k makes 7k for me, and another good quality day.

My running streak day 192

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 with No comments
I decided to drive over to Kippax (1k away from home) so that I could do all my running on nice soft grass again today, owing to an injury which won't go away (it's been 5 days). OK I know I have only one reader (you) but if you would like to join me for some runs at Kippax on days I don't meet others elsewhere, you are welcome. The distance was manageable.

It was a quick 5k at sub-5s average, good, albeit some huffing and puffing.

Also there are Griffins (just a few of them here)

I ran 7k in late afternoon - including a 5k race in the summer series at Stromlo Forest Park, reverse direction. The time was a little over 26 minutes, not pushing too hard. Thus continuing a string of quickish 5k runs.

Darcy ran the 2k. Gosh, he's good! Here he is at the parkrun with his mum.

My running streak day 190

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, March 18, 2019 with No comments
In the spirit of only doing 5k a day while recovering from injury, I ran a quick 5k before speedygeese training tonight. Then, while speedygeese were training, I ran another 5k, slowly. Not quite what I had intended?

Training doing 12 x Rose Garden 200s on 2:30 were Allie & Peach, Colin, Michael, Richard, Gwen, Bernardo, Jen, Isaac, and Craig.
Running 10 x Rose Garden 200s on 3:00 were Deborah, Kahlia, Ruth, Jennie, George, Tiffany. Jonathan (new), and Rae. Also seen in the vicinity were Dave, and Christopher.

My running streak day 188

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, March 16, 2019 with 1 comment
Falling yesterday has set me back; I will put all my goals aside for now, except for the goal of running every day. Hurting after falling was a delayed reaction and I was sore last night; but the good news is that today I am feeling 66 and 2/3 percent better already.

So I ran parkrun at Ginninderra this morning, no warm-up, no cool-down, just seeing how far I could go or whether I would have to bail out. I was pleased therefore to complete the 5k in 31:47. I guess I have one goal after all, to beat that time next week.
"Starting again" sucks, but I am probably an expert at it.

Speaking of restarting, it was great to see Ewen back with us this week! Looking good, too.

My running streak day 186

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, March 14, 2019 with No comments
Well a big day today. I ran 6k in the morning and another 11k in the evening, making a grand total of 17k. So good to have cooler weather, let's hope it lasts and winter takes a while to arrive!
There are only three Thursdays of daylight saving left and we will be at Stromlo Forest Park for those three Thursdays. Captain's call, we go back to Parliament House on Thursdays after that [I could survey 50 speedygeese but I would get 25+ different answers].

Training tonight: Jen, Isaac, Bron, Andrew and I did their own thing; doing the actual planned training session of 500 + 400 + 2x300 + 3x200 + 500 were Paul Q, Colin, Jennie, and Jenny. It was good to catch up with Alan and Barbara Duus while they were watching their grandchildren on the cycling track, and Thach with his children were there as well.

Here is a nice pic of Gwen and Richard, at the top of Australia, relatively new to Australia and relatively new to the speedygeese.

New people are often the best and these are no exception!

Today a bit tired, I managed to fit in 6k in the morning; later a spot of soft tissue therapy turned out to be the final such session for a while, now to get stronger again and see if there are more fitness gains to be had.

Meanwhile, please do join us on Mondays at Parliament House! We have a great time. Photos by Ruth.

My running streak day 184

Posted by speedygeoff on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 with No comments
Today I ran 2.7k to/from another intense gym circuit. These are harder than the gym sessions I had been used to, but better for me now I think. I am going well this week, and will recheck my sore bits with Clinic88 therapists tomorrow, expecting improvement to be noted.

Here are Dave Clarke photos from a recent run:

My running streak day 183

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, March 11, 2019 with No comments
This morning I jogged 2k, and tonight I ran another 14.3k at speedygeese training. I ran with Miranda early, then got the geese to run Rose Garden 200s, we haven't done these for a while. Participating were Giles, Gwen, Paul Q, Allie + Peach, George, Lisa, Sandeep, Jenny, Deborah, Rae and Ruth. They ran 9, 10, 11 or 12 of the 200m sprints with the longer recovery in between.

Oh Janene!

Oh Chloe!

There were two trees in the garden...

Today I ran 10k at Stromlo with Andrew, feeling comfortable for most of it, and running quicker than usual. Tomorrow is a holiday in the ACT, but training will be on at the usual time.

My running streak day 181

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, March 09, 2019 with No comments
Saturday again already and didn't feel like running hard. Went to Ginninderra and ran my best time there since August 2017. To put it in perspective, I have run at Ginninderra 26 times in between, not as fast. So there you go. The other good thing about today's run was, no soreness, probably for the first time since that 2017 run. Today I even threw in a few surges, the first during the first km, and still felt good all the way. Perhaps I am starting to regain some fitness? Let's hope so. Total for the day with the warm-up, 7k. Time at Lake G: 23:25.

This was me Thursday/Friday this week.

My running streak day 180

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, March 08, 2019 with No comments
I managed to fit in a morning run, just 3k. I did a few exercises too, and also walked for a while.

Some of my old pictures: I have run well long ago, regardless of whether I run well in the future or not.

My running streak day 179

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, March 07, 2019 with No comments
Another big day of running - firstly a 50 minute gym circuit in the morning, a 2k run with it, and another 8k with the speedygeese in the evening. The evening session was 4 x 1k with a jog in between, although some did their own thing. Present were Dave, Colin, Paul Q, Isaac, Jen, Lisa, Jenny, Sandeep, Andrew, Bron, Jennie and me. Seen in the vicinity - Jacob G.

Weary - so - a 6k jog today. Tired from yesterday's gym plus run, I guess.
Gym yesterday gym tomorrow but never gym today. [Alice in Wonderland mis-quote]

My running streak day 176

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, March 04, 2019 with No comments
I ran 15k in all today; and a stormy Parliament House session consisting of 3 x 860m with 430m jog in between (plus a short rest) was enjoyed by Deborah, Jennie, Ruth, Jenny, Bernardo, Richard, Colin, Paul, Lisa, George, Celina, Kevin, Jacob, Chloe, Allie, Kahlia, Gwen and Peach plus me of course. [Edit: Warrick dropped in to say hello]. Afterwards we hung around to celebrate Gwen's birthday with champagne. And we were introduced to Percy Pigs, a popular British confection. I took the opportunity to return the favour with a Caramello Koala.

Here's the lovely Bron, who joins us at Stromlo Forest Park on Thursdays. Photo taken there, by Bron...
