My third car

A 1969 Datsun sedan, pale blue. This I bought after arriving in Canberra, starting work here, and saving enough money for a deposit. I recall my father telling me he thought the 1600 was too powerful a car, but I bought it anyway. Perhaps as a Holden man he would have preferred I bought another Torana.

My Second Car

A brand new just off the production line 1967 Holden Torana. I drove it to Flinders Uni for two years then bequeathed it to my brother when I left Adelaide in January 1969 and moved to Canberra.

My first car

Austin A40 Tourer.

Except it was red. That is, the outer coat was red. When we looked deeper, it had the whole spectrum of paint jobs over its many years. I killed the car, its rubber band broke going too fast down Tapleys Hill Road one day.
