What's on this week: (updated Mondays)
I have added a speedygeese Wednesday group run to the runs listed here and listed on Facebook.

Monday 22 Feb Parliament House 4:30pm jog, 5:30pm speedygeese interval training
Tuesday 23 Feb 6:15pm Summer Series race #4 Stromlo Forest Park 5k cross country
Wednesday 24 Feb 12:15pm BBQ Stakes 6k handicap
Wednesday 24 Feb 5:45pm Parliament House, easy run.
Thursday 25 Feb Vets Track: Pentathlon, plus
...6:00pm 3000m
...6:15pm 10k walk
...7:15pm sprints
...8:15pm spiral 6 laps
Sunday 28 Feb 8:30am Vets Handicap, North Curtin, please note the start time.

I am also thinking of going over to Stromlo on Fridays around lunchtime and doing a drills session there, it's the only window of opportunity I have. Also I had made tentative arrangements to run at Stromlo every couple of weeks on Saturday mornings but this won't happen now.

Last week I was unwell Thursday and Friday, which made for serious disruptions to my training! I bounced back OK and ran (or plodded) 29.5k on Sunday. The run was solo but I did manage to find some company to relieve the boredom, both early in the run and late. Hopefully this week I will feel better.

The postponed Sprint-Marathon relay yesterday was well attended given the circumstances, six teams of six runners each enjoyed the day. Nadine has put photos on her Facebook page.

And my tentative racing plans at the moment have been extended to include
Weston Creek Half Marathon 14 March
Rex Foulkes Half Marathon 2 May
Queensland Half Marathon (at Doomben, Brisbane) 6 June

Canberra Road Running Festival & Manuka Oval
The ACT Cross Country Club announced [during the week] that the race headquarters for the inaugural Canberra Road Running Festival will be Manuka Oval. Club President, Doug Limbrick, said: “A unique feature of this Running Festival will be a stadium like finish in Canberra’s iconic Manuka Oval for the half marathon, marathon and ultra marathon competitors”. Manuka Oval offers excellent facilities for the runners and the spectators and will be a wonderful venue for the Runners Expo which is an important part of the Festival.

The Canberra Road Running Festival will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd May 2010
and will incorporate:
• a 2km Mini Jog for children under 10 years of age
• a 5km Fun Run
• a Half Marathon (41st Rex Foulkes Half Marathon)
• a Marathon (to be known as the National Capital Marathon)
• an Ultra 50km event
• a Runners Expo

The Mini Jog and Fun run will be conducted on Saturday 1st May with the other events taking place on Sunday 2nd May. The marathon and half marathon will respectively incorporate the ACT marathon and half marathon championships.

The Patron for the Festival is marathon champion Robert de Castella and the Festival is endorsed
by Athletics Australia.

Ruth wishing Margaret a happy birthday last Thursday!
Wearing their walk numbers. Will they go in the 10k walk this week, I wonder?

  1. With a 3000m and a 6 lap spiral on the agenda I think the 10000m walk is out of the question this week!!! Besides 10000m walking would probably require an ipod and then I would be disqualified!! :)

  2. You could do all three, they don't over-lap. I am sure Roger would do all three if he weren't overseas doing the World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships at Kamloops and every other sporting event he might find.

  3. An easy triple Strewth... just have to do the 3000m run in exactly 15 minutes!

Think I'll give the walk a miss, as I had a long walk back to the car from training tonight :(

  4. I'm tipping 14:59. Plenty of time!
