My running streak day 226

Posted by speedygeoff on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 with
I ran 8k this morning, and did a 50 minute gym circuit. Lots of debris from last night's rain, but it was much nicer for running this morning than it was last night.

Here are some of the speedygeese at Ginninderra parkrun last Saturday:

My running streak day 225

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, April 22, 2019 with
This morning I ran 3k down at Kippax, as was my plan but a good idea in case my young (55 tomorrow) sister in law was right when she prophesied massive thunderstorms in the evening. In the evening I ran 7k early between the raindrops then joined Anthony, Jenny M, Ruth and Lisa (45 today) in the shelter of a rather empty (public holiday) Parliament House carpark for another 5k. Making 15k for the day, slightly short of what I had planned, all good though given the thunderstorms! I was surprised to discover that my latest Garmin device could accurately measure our car-park distance, given that older versions could not, but it did decline to show me a map of the route taken.

Jenni and Ruth enjoying the marathon at the ARF.

My favourite band - and what great drumwork in this live video!

My running streak day 224

Today the speedygeese set off from Stromlo Forest Park on their weekly long run at the same time as I was partway through a jog on the grass there. None of the speedygeese joined me but I did get to run with Pru who said she was at "Day 1" of her training. So I did have pleasant company.

I ran 10k, which brought the week's total to 68k.

Here's the group of us who supported Jenny May yesterday. Photo by Ruth via time delay, which beats her selfie shots!

Today I ran at the Ginninderra parkrun, pacing Jenny May to a new PB, and following her in at 28:40. She was running her 100th parkrun. With a 5k warm-up run, that made it 10k for the day, at a nice easy pace.

My running streak day 222

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, April 19, 2019 with
A lovely sunny morning in Canberra, and I ran a loop of a 7k course which I used to run many years ago. First time it's been measured though, and it turns out to be 7.2k. So that's good. And I stopped at 7k, not wanting to have to top it up to 8.

Today's run makes 222 days in a row for me, so far, and I have plans to continue this streak indefinitely. Or perhaps more accurately, "non-definitely"?

Robert Ey and his family and friends were all out with him as he completed his 100th marathon on Sunday. I remember "holding hands" with him across the line in the Melbourne Marathon one year, we ran 2:59 coasting home.

My running streak day 221

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, April 18, 2019 with
Today was a 17km day. That's right, the distances are gradually increasing which bodes well for future performances. Not to mention longevity etc. If I'd been sick anytime in those 221 days I would have skipped a day. That's a long time of not being sick. Today I ran 2k in the morning and did a quite demanding 50 minute exercise circuit in the gym. Then this evening I ran before speedygeese training an 8k at a good clip, then supervised the speedygeese training session where they ran 12 x 40 seconds on 2 minutes, I did the first 11, and I completed another 7k. Won't push the pace this Saturday, plan to run with Jenny May while she completes her 100th parkrun - this is at Ginninderra.

Speedygeese training tonight were Ruth back from her marathon already, Dave, Jen, Isaac, Colin, Brownie, Lisa and me.

Thommo playing up running the marathon.

Moral of the story today - running is good for the health.

My running streak day 218

What great weather for running it is at the moment! This morning I jogged 2k then tonight I ran 6k at Parliament House with Deborah P, then conducted a speedygeese session where I ran another 6k making it 14k for the day. Present at training along with me and Deborah P (new) were Rachel, Kahlia, Allie (and Peach), Rae, Celina, Kevin, Chloe, Jacob M, Mick, Colin, Phil (new), Bron, and Deborah D (the only ARF runner to back up). Brownie also passed by to greet us. The session was our favourite continuous relay training, 12 minutes of three person and 12 minutes of 2 person zigzag relays at the lower flagpoles.

One of the photos I took at the ARF, George running the Half Marathon.

Song of the Week.

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, April 13, 2019 with
It has been a breakthrough day, not just for me but also for many of the speedygeese with some great performances today, and no doubt more to come this weekend. See next Tuesday's post for all the results! I finally broke the 23 minute barrier at parkrun, doing 22:52 at Gungahlin, feeling good unlike the last couple of days. The first sub 23 of many, or that's the plan.

Candy - one of the many speedygeese entered in tomorrow's Canberra marathon. I will be hovering around in the vicinity of Telopea Park as the marathoners / half marathoners / ultra runners head towards the finish.

This was the first Thursday speedygeese session back at Parliament House, now that daylight saving time was over. Just four of us there - I had Tori, Craig and Colin running a ladder of 600m, 400, 200 repeated for 20 minutes. All recoveries were a 200m jog. As for me, I was sore from yesterday's gym session and struggled through a 10k run.

It was up early today to get out to the gym and do a 60 minute "Group Active" exercise class, which I thoroughly enjoyed having not done one of these for a while. I also ran 5k out from the lake (Ginninderra) while I was there. Feeling fine today.

One of my youngest grandchildren has started doing gymnastics and is enjoying success already. She is taking after her two older sisters, who have been extremely successful in days gone by.

Tossing up what parkrun to go to, even this morning not yet decided, I finally thought I would visit Ginninderra as I was doing some shopping nearby afterwards. I ran 23:25, equal best this year at that venue but on a less humid day will go much faster. Meanwhile at Gungahlin, Lisa ran a lifetime 5k PB, congratulations! Just behind Janene!

My running streak day 208

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, April 05, 2019 with
I decided to run around the proposed Umbagong District parkrun course today to see what it was like, and to establish a time to beat in future. The parkrun is still a considerable way off and hasn't been finalised yet, but I am pretty confident it will be approved for the route I took. I did run clockwise though and its direction is under discussion. Anyway, a 5k in 27:35 running easy on a Friday is pleasing. The course is pleasantly undulating. I am familiar with it as the start is just 1k from my home and I have run many times along the creek where the course goes. This one will become my home course, for sure.

Today I ran 3k in the morning, and spent 50 minutes doing an exercise circuit in the gym.

In the evening we had the final daylight-saving-Stromlo Forest Park training session, where the speedygeese ran continuous intervals on our 500m hill for 23 minutes, alternating fast and slow laps.

Present were Kevin, Celina, Jacob, Chloe, Jenny, Jennie, Jen, Lisa, Tori, Allie, Janene, Andrew, Paul Q, Colin, Dave, Maria, Gregg at the last drinks, and me. I ran another 11k there, making 14k for the day.

Jennie - has run 100k already this week, top of the speedygeese leader-board.

Off to the Doctor to get a slice cut out of my calf - I must have convinced him my streak should continue, as he decided to try cryo on the lesion instead. These skin issues dog me every now and then.

So having no excuses, I jogged a slow 5k in the afternoon.

Today I went to the gym for another 50 minute circuit class, and ran 5k feeling OK.

My running streak day 204

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, April 01, 2019 with
I am not sure I can claim this day as mine... Excellent turnout at speedygeese tonight for the last PH training in daylight saving .. in the group were Kahlia, Rae, Tori, Jennie, Ruth, Deb D, Craig, Jacob who decided to hammer it all session even if early on he was saving himself to prepare for a Mt Ainslie run-up tomorrow (then he changed his mind), and other fast/competitive male runners Richard who is getting faster, Chris (new) up with them, Bernardo, and stalwart Colin who was up there but mainly came in fifth, unprecedented, considering his consistent form previously. Now too, actually, but good efforts by the others. And then running early with me were Deborah P. and Miranda; I totalled my target which was 10k. p.s. I thought I saw Christopher for half a second, must have been a mirage.

Pardon the ranting on, more importantly was the wedding of speedygeese Narelle and Graeme on Saturday.

Many good pics, see Narelle SMYTH's FB page. Wow fantastic, congratulations.

My running streak day 203

Posted by speedygeoff on Sunday, March 31, 2019 with
A cold start to the day, but little breeze, which helped. Wearing beanie and gloves for the first time this year, I ran a comfortable 11k with Andrew. Comfortable meaning, the on-going niggles seem to be less niggly on a Sunday at last.

Here are the speedygeese who did Queanbeyan #100 parkrun on Saturday. Callum, Cookie, Thommo, Vanessa, myself, Rae, Bernado.

My running streak day 202

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, March 30, 2019 with
It was Queanbeyan parkrun's #100 so I ventured across the border to participate, planning to run slowly and chat to whoever. Which is what I did. A nice slow trot in 30:25. Because of the slow pace, the hills and the concrete path didn't bother me at all. And there was cake.

An easy and relaxing run.

My running streak day 201

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, March 29, 2019 with
This was another Friday when I was lacking in energy. I ran an unmotivated 3k in the afternoon, saving my energy for tomorrow, I guess.

Tomorrow Queanbeyan has its 100th parkrun and I am planning to be there for an easy run.

My running streak day 200

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, March 28, 2019 with
Yep, 200. I ran 3k in the morning and completed an intense 50 minute gym circuit. Then in the evening I joined the speedygeese training group and ran another 9k, mostly slow. At speedygeese running 8 x 300m FAST with 100m walk between were Janene, Colin, Jen, Jenny, Jennie, Lisa, George, Isaac, Tori, and Andrew.

Too many "more important" people running in the wrong direction and I am somewhat relieved that we are there only for one more week until training reverts to Parliament House on Thursdays for non-daylight-saving.

my running streak day 199

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 with
Today I didn't feel like running - but I still went over to Kippax before the ACT Government takes my nearest ovals away and ran 3k. I could have stayed inside, very easily. Still, 199 days!
