One of those days..

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, January 25, 2020 with
..at Ginninderra parkrun where I targeted 24 minutes but just missed, where I found it sticky humid and was sweating before the start let alone during the run, and where I was called forward to be congratulated for running my 150th and almost declined because I hadn't realised and thought it was someone else.

John Harding took some pics, there may be more pics tomorrow.

After the storm

Posted by speedygeoff on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 with
Twenty people and a dog ran at Parliament House yesterday afternoon, thankfully clear skies after a massive hailstorm wreaked havoc around lunchtime. The only available bit of ground with little debris was our "favourite" hill, so we ran 20 x 100m hill sprints on 90 seconds. Present were Ernesto (new), Rebecca, Peach, Allie, Kevin, Chloe, Jacob, Paul, Megan (new), young Giles (new), Giles, Ruth, Jenny M, Yelena, James, Mick, Peter, Lisa, Tiffany, David and me. All (but one?) of whom are in Ruth's photos (some taken by Paul).

Our run was perfect.

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, January 17, 2020 with
"It was so fantastic to have an opportunity to enjoy some running in the rain at Stromlo. The threatening storm eased off in time for us to have a lovely spongy session of 200m intervals. A few of us lingered at The Handlebar later for a drink and chat. Jenny took a couple of photos for us. 🤣🏃🏻‍♂️"

Present: Dave, Jen, Jenny, Kevin, Jacob, Celina, Matt, Jacob G, Ruth, Kathy, Pieta and me, Chloe also said hello. I ran 7k and did the 8 x 200m intervals. It poured before we began, with lightning flashes close by, and as soon as that had passed over, it was perfect conditions for training.

Broulee runners.

Broulee runners (http://brouleerunners.blogspot.com/) have a weekly Wednesday 5k, shorter for kids. They got together last week, after a break because of the horrendous fires. Good to see them reconvening despite the on-going crisis.

speedygeese Monday training

Posted by speedygeoff on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 with
The smoke wasn't too bad so we ran 20 minutes of 3 person relays, and 10 minutes of 2 person relays, at the Rose Gardens short course. Present were Kathy, Giles, Peter, David, Celina, Jenny, Kerron, Yelena, Ruth, Dave, Rae, Warrick, Melissa, Kevin, Jen and me. Denis rocked up after training, too. Some went home before the photo...

As for me I worked hard in the fastest team of 3, ran 7k in total, and with a slow 9k this morning, have enjoyed a good start to week 2 of a running streak. Gym tomorrow!

Running streak day 6, Ginninderra parkrun with pics

Posted by speedygeoff on Saturday, January 11, 2020 with
Some of the smoke cleared from Canberra, today, mainly northside, so that Wagi Bridge, Gungahlin, Ginninderra, and Mount Ainslie parkruns went ahead while the others didn't. I thought 5 minute kms would be all I could manage at Ginninderra today, and I was right. Here are some of our runners there:

Recent training - speedygeese Thursday, and my streak.

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, January 10, 2020 with
Thursday evening at Stromlo Forest Park we ran 4 x 500m hill loop and 2 x 200m straight. Kangaroos (a)bounded. And a quiet drink afterwards as we enjoyed the first relatively smoke free day for ages.

Running were Tegan (new), Isaac, Brownie, Paul, Pieta, Andrew, Ruth, Yelena, Vianne, Allie, Kevin, Celina, Dave and I with Maya and Joel also in attendance.

Today I extended my running streak to 5 days, running about 5k or so each day this week so far (28k total).

Monday training

Posted by speedygeoff on Tuesday, January 07, 2020 with
Finally the smoke cleared sufficiently at Parliament House to resume training. Six people ran 10 x 200m with a longer recovery: Clare, Ruth, Paul, Andrew, Pieta and me.

I also ran this morning, so that's a streak of 2 days:
Monday 7.0k interval 200s
Tuesday 7.5k Drake Brockman Drive trot.

speedygeese results

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 with
I didn't publish results today because there aren't any - except a few parkruns around the place on Christmas day. A notable Christmas performance - James' son, Liam Swann, ran a PB of 20:53 at Burley Griffin. Quite a few geese ran there that day, and other groups of friends too. Here's the link - https://www.parkrun.com.au/burleygriffin/results/weeklyresults/?runSeqNumber=186.

Cancelled because of hazardous smoky conditions have been all local parkruns on Saturday and on New Years Day.

Running streak day 3

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 with
It was an absolutely horrible morning, cooler but with smoke very hazardous and up to 15x the hazardous extreme level. By noon there was some improvement but it was still extreme. I donned a mask and managed to get out for a jog, it would have been disappointing to have ended a streak so soon. I tried not to get out of breath. It was a risk I was taking, but I was fine.

Time 12 noon
Course Holt shops loop
Distance 3k in 20 minutes
Feeling OK today with smoke mask on
Air Quality Index 800 (Hazardous extreme x 3)
Temperature 25
Weight 71.1
