But here's the path (across the bridge) at Queanbeyan's almost-parkrun this morning, where the runners set off and almost immediately had to stop as flood waters rose.

A Thursday afternoon at Stromlo Forest park

Training yesterday consisted of 10 x 200m with 100m recovery (jog; float; what-have-you). Followed by 5 x 100m with 100m recovery. Present were Allie, Jen, Jennie, Isaac, Thach and Ryan for the warm-up, Colin, Celina and me.

How Monday night training went.

Monday was a public holiday, i.e. Canberra Day. Giles and I had an early run; then I organised our second set of "Rose Garden 200s". James S and Brownie ran 13 on 2:20; Paul, Giles and Jacob M ran 12 on 2:30; Peter, James O', Craig, Sandeep and Clare ran 11 on 2:40; Lisa and Celina 10 on 2:50; Tiffany, Abby, Deb (new) and Vanessa 10 on 3:00, and Ruth, Yelena, Deborah D, Rae, Jennie and George 9 on 3:30. I had a new system for calling starts for each group, the system worked well. Afterwards Clare brought pikelets and her New York Marathon trophy from 2019 (first W65). Paul's wife and son visited at the end, plus Dave randomly appearing makes a total of 26. Good turn-out for a long weekend.

“Yesterday” is a wonderful movie on many levels, when Jack sings “Let It Be” his family and their friends let nothing be, but at the end of the movie Jack himself decides to let it be, surrendering his ambition to reality. “Yesterday” is my new favourite movie (fyi my old favourite movie was “Groundhog Day”, so it’s been a while). It is interesting to note the variations in the lyrics of this video clip compared with the popular version (with “song lyrics” being one of the themes of “Yesterday”, not only in the “Eleanor Rigby” sequence, but in the way the lyrics of various songs tie into the events taking place).

Ginninderra parkrun - my best time for a while

I was trying to catch this lady (Debra). Didn't succeed (and she ran her PB).



Still, I managed 23:11. I am hoping to bring that down further in the next few weeks.

Monday's speedygeese training session

Autumn has arrived, and it wasn't too hot for us to run an intense training session. It was a return to "Rose Garden 200s" with different intervals for different runners. Participating were Matt, Richard, Colin, Dave, Peter, David, James, Max, Clare, Lisa, Tiffany, Ruth, Kerron, Phil, new David, Abby, Yelena, Kahlia, Warrick, and Deborah, while Franklin and I supervised. My system of "starts" is a bit tricky, I will try to improve it next time.

Training is still on next Monday, Canberra Day, same time, same place.

Thursday afternoon training at Stromlo this week.

Not a big speedygeese turnout, unusually, made up for by 100 or so other runners out on the Stromlo grass this week. I totalled 11k, we ran 300m reps with 200m recoveries. Andrew, Isaac, Jen and Colin did 8 x 300m; Dave, Tom and I did 6; Yelena 4, and Thach just the warm-up.

Monday's speedygeese training session

At Parliament House, 21 people plus one puppy did zigzag relays at Parliament House while I watched and jogged 9k in all. The participants in the relays were Pieta, Phil, Ruth, Andrew (new), Kathy, Celina, Yelena, Peter, Kahlia and David with Franklin the dog, James, Rohan, Craig, Rae, Matt, Richard, Abby (new), Rachel, Lisa, Deborah, and Dave.

Thursday speedygeese training

Present: at Stromlo Yelena, Jen, Celina, Rohan, Paul, Tom, Brownie, Isaac, Kevin and me, with Thach and Ryan joining the warmup and Chloe in attendance as well. The group ran 25 minutes of hill intervals in teams of three.

speedygeese at Stromlo Forest Park yesterday

I arrived early to run some extra distance, but sat out a 30 minute storm instead. It cleared for our training, which consisted of four x one minute uphill runs, and three short downhill runs. Training were Paul, Colin, Isaac, Rohan, Cec (new), Ernesto, Celina, Kevin, Leah (new), Ally, Jen, Yelena, Dave and me while Bron and Shane joined us at Handlebar afterwards. Oops I missed one when I wrote down the names... Andrew, I think? It was Tom. My medium term memory is unreliable. As is my spelling of new people's names.

Monday night training

A muggy evening at Parliament House, rain both before and after the session but no rain during it. Didn't matter, we were sweat saturated anyway. We ran some 460m hill circuits and some flat 200m sprints. Running were Kathy, Rae, Vanessa, Celina, Jenny M, Ruth, Warrick, James S, Paul Q, Rohan, Andrew Sm, with me mainly jogging around. I managed 10k because I jogged around earlier as well.

Thursday night training at Stromlo Forest Park

There were large groups of runners, kangaroos, and ducks out on the track, while the speedygeese ran 4x500m hills and 2x200m stride. A cool breeze was most welcome, especially when it was behind us for the 200s. Participating were Tom (new), Paul, Giles Q, Colin, Celina, Chloe, Rohan, Tori, Dave and I, with Thach and Ryan joining us for the warm-up, and Jacob G seen racing past, accompanied by James Minto.

My running streak has reached 32 days, and thank goodness for the cooler weather and the easterly blowing away the smoke for now, I should be able to continue the streak, possible rain not withstanding.

Meanwhile at Woden, several speedygeese ran a 5k track event.

Monday night training at Parliament House

Last night at Parliament House, a huge amount of smoke across Tuggeranong did impinge somewhat at training, but at worse we just caught the edge of it, before the wind changed more to the south later on.

We had two person relays for 30 minutes over a longer course, which I estimated was 860m for the fast interval with 430m for the recovery, 2 laps then 1 lap respectively with a bit of a hill towards the end of each lap.

For a change, I think I can can recall who teamed up. Allie (mostly with Peach) and Colin; James S and Narelle, Jen and Isaac, Ruth and Jenny M plus Warrick, Andrew Sm and Rohan, Rae and Vanessa, Max and Liam, Celina and me, while Dave did his own thing as usual.

I was a bit slow and completed three of the long intervals; some did more than that.
