My running streak day 172

I ran a total of 16k today, probably my longest day for the longest time. In the morning too, an intense 45 minute circuit in the gym, see below.
Speedygeese training at Stromlo Forest Park tonight consisted of 10 x 200m with 100m float, and was attended by Brownie, Andrew, Allie, Bron, Jen, Isaac, Jennie, Jenny, Paul Q, Colin, Celina, Jacob and Kevin.

My running streak day 171

I left my run to late in the day, and fortunately it wasn't too hot. But I did shorten it to 7k, down Stockdill Drive, into the Belconnen countryside, and back, running slow and steady.

My running streak day 170

At 9:30am, a 45 minute gym circuit, and a good 9k run around Lake Ginninderra, before it got too hot, was what I did today.

My running streak day 169

Monday so it's Parliament House day: I ran early then jogged around at speedygeese training, totalling 12.6k. Running continuous relays over 860m were Richard and Bernardo; over 430m were Ruth, Jenny, Jennie, Michael, Vanessa, Paul, Rachel, Kahlia, Vanessa H, and jogging around were Gwen, Erica and me. I also saw Narelle before training and Christopher later on.

My running streak day 168

It was a cooler morning, and today I ran 12k at Stromlo Forest Park, accompanied by Bron and Andrew. So that's 24 weeks done and I am travelling alright, though I would like to be able to run parkruns faster!

Yesterday Andrew ran strong at Gungahlin, while I had both feet on the ground, but not continuously, when sprinting to the finish line!

Another Saturday another parkrun. Plus 3k warm-up and 4k cool-down makes 12k total for the day.

Today I jogged 3k before and after a 60 minute circuit at the gym. It's been a busy week, time to relax.

My running streak day 165

Today I ran around Mount Stromlo before I met up with the speedygeese, then got them to do 3 x 1k with a whole kilometre jog in between. Most did that, some achieving recent PBs, some did not do exactly what I had prescribed, because pleasingly they have their own personal goals consistent with their own progress and ambition. My 12k was also pleasing but in future I will do half that on Thursday mornings along with a more intense gym session which I am switching from Fridays to Thursdays from next week. It is important to keep on challenging myself to try for more ambitious targets.

So the runners tonight were: Daniel (visitor from East Sydney: the unexpected publicity in national Fairfax media is already working after 2 days!!!), Andrew, Lisa, Jennie, Jenny, Bron, Paul Q, Brownie, Jen too, Sandeep, Isaac looking very fast, and of course me too. At Handlebar afterwards, George rocked in after a couple of laps of the mountain on his bike. I am enjoying the revival of the group at Stromlo Forest Park and enjoying seeing the large number of other training groups there.

Here's a relative newcomer whose running pace and enthusiasm is inspiring us all. Michael Smith. Nice running style.

Today's run was a 6k jog from home. Then I visited Clinic88 for some more treatment on my sore leg. It is slowly improving apparently. Well it does feel slightly better. I am still allowed to run.

My running streak day 163

Today I started a 9:30am Tuesday circuit class, a harder one than I have been doing in recent times. This will replace the 10:30am Wednesday strength class, as I am getting too used to the latter. Also, the earlier start gives me a chance to do a longer Tuesday run, which I intend to build on as the weather improves (hopefully). Today the run was 9k.

And today we got some free publicity, nationally, for our free training sessions! Good to have mentions of similar groups elsewhere, too.

My running streak day 162

At 4:30pm I ran 7.2k from Parliament House. The temperature was 35 degrees at the start. At 5:30pm I ran another 5k, supervising the speedygeese running 2 person relays. Present were Vanessa H and Erica, Allie and Peach, Rae, Ruth, Jennie, Jenny, Mick, Paul Q, Colin, George, and me. The temperature was 20 degrees at the end. I did feel good with the temperature drop happening!

My running streak day 161

I ran with Andrew and Bron this morning, the best I have felt on a Sunday morning recovery run as far back as I can remember (a few months I suppose). It was great to have Bron join us at Stromlo Forest Park on a Sunday. Total for the day, 12k.

Lisa and I at Gungahlin parkrun yesterday. Lisa ran a PB on her 50th parkrun, skirt with sequins and all. I had to push the pace to keep up. Well done Lisa, flying, obviously.

It was supposed to be an "easy" run at Gungahlin parkrun today, and I decided to run with Lisa on the occasion of her milestone 50th parkrun, but she went and ran a Gungahlin PB of 24:36 and my 24:37 felt flat out. Well done Lisa.

With 2k warm-up and 2k cool-down, that's 9k today for me.

It's Friday so I went to the gym, and also jogged just 3k. My easier week ends tomorrow or Sunday, then I will be upping it again next week.

Still no (new or old) niggles - yay! The speedygeese ran 8 x 300m at Stromlo Forest Park today - so did I, and quite well too. Participating were Eden, Allie, Jennie, Jenny, Andrew, Colin, Bron, Kevin, Jake, Lisa, someone (Who? My mental block. Please tell.) and me. I also saw Jacob G, Jen, Isaac, Daniel, Celina and Chloe. I ran a total of 7k before a few of us retired to Handlebar.

My running streak day 157

Today I ran around Lake Ginninderra - 6.5k, feeling alright, setting a very good PB for the bridge to bridge Strava segment, as it turned out. And I did a one hour session in the gym, strength and conditioning, before that. Next week I might shift this gym session from Wednesday to Tuesday, do it earlier, and run a bit further. I am yet to work out the details if I do change my training to incorporate this.

A bit earlier might be challenging, though.



There is some satisfaction, however, in being the #1 M70 for all these Strava segments that I look at.

A pretty bad day for running - I set out in the afternoon to do a few k, but was turned back by strong winds, unpleasant dust, and the prospect of tree branches snapping off and falling on my head. Total - 2k only.

At Parliament House training tonight, doing 350m intervals in a 30 minute relay of three people on a less hilly loop in milder weather were George, Deborah, Bron, Giles, Paul Q, Michael, Mick, Vanessa P, Kahlia, Ruth, Jennie and Jenny. I supervised but still ran 9k, and there was a sighting of Christopher.

I ran at Stromlo Forest Park again this morning as usual, it was a lovely cool morning with surprisingly few runners on the track, although there were plenty of cyclists out and about as usual. I completed 4 circuits; 10k; at a good pace.

Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday - Friday - PARKRUN DAY! I ran 25:42 at Mount Ainslie parkrun today, my PB on that course but it is a hell of a course. Total distance run today, 10k.

My running streak day 152

Today I did my Friday gym session, 60 minutes of circuit training. Running from/to the car and looping around gave me 4k of jogging. Too early to report any recovery from leg pain, after Wednesday's treatment.

My running streak day 151. There is no finish line.

Today I ran at Stromlo Forest Park with the speedygeese, and hurrah! It was 24 degrees with a cool breeze.
The group ran 6 x 500m hills at the pimple end of the park; I joined them and ran all of them.

So, running were Eden (new), Allie, Paul Q, Andrew, Rohan, Celina, Lisa, Jennie, Jenny, and me.
Others sighted were Vanessa P, and Kevin with Chloe.

Afterwards we retreated to Handlebar where I tried a Crankshaft, definitely not overrated!

p.s. because it was Black Saturday's 10th anniversary, my wife and I watched "Then the wind changed" tonight. More traumatic than I remembered, my thoughts go out once again to those affected, particularly to Bron and her family.

My running streak day 150. Is this the end?

I ran to and from the gym, 2.5k, and did a one hour exercises class.
I was so sore, I thought I should get it checked - whatever "it" was.
Went to the physio, who diagnosed the problem for me.

The good news:
I can keep running, and won't have to end my streak.

The bad news:
I can keep running, and won't have to end my streak.

It's still game on. It's not the end.

Ewen Contemplating Life from the Stromlo Hill

My running streak day 148

But first it's back to school for the children and grandchildren of many of the speedygeese. Here is a picture of my four Moore grandsons, ready for a new year!



So at training tonight I ran 7k first, then another 5k while I looked after 15 other speedygeese running 10 x 100m on a Parliament House hill, followed by 5 x 200m down then up the same hill. Present were Kahlia (new), Rachel (new), Carinna (new), George (64 today), Annette (still visiting, last day probably), and Paul McG, Paul Q, Michael, Vanessa H, Erica, Ruth, Jennie, Bron, Giles, and Jenny. George kindly brought some champagne to celebrate his birthday.

My running streak day 147

Just an easy 11k run at Stromlo with Andrew - except first, it was humid and my choice of a T-shirt was a mistake, it came off after 3k. My first topless run for many a year! And second, the pace was about 15 seconds per km quicker than usual, although it didn't seem fast.

My running streak day 146 and a faster parkrun time

Today I lept to the 23 minute barrier at Gungahlin 5k parkrun, actual time 23:02, will have to run it again and go faster! The better time than recently was helped no doubt by the cooler but still-very-humid weather. This is a significant improvement again, so the training pattern will continue. Total for the day, 11k.
