Running on Monday night at Parliament House
Posted by speedygeoff on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 with
For once good weather - not too hot, not too cold, and no wind. We trotted down to Reconciliation Place for our "ramp runs"; 15 x 150m uphill sprints on 2 minutes. Running were Lee (new), Peach, Allie, Paul Q, Trevor, Ruth, Jennie, Michael, Deborah D, James, Sév, and me. Christopher's ghost may have been seen as we passed by that billabong. But no-one came waltzing matilda with him.

Last evening we ran relays from court 8 - the 400m track with the steep hill. While Dave jogged around, Warrick did laps looking more mobile every week, and I watched, the teams consisted of Trevor (new), Richard, Gwen, Jennie, Deborah D, Sév, Paul Q, Michael, Mick, Brownie, Vanessa and Craig.

A great day, a great course, 333 finishers, good to see Margaret and Gwen (Gwen mislaid her bar code so isn't in the results), good to see Bob and Carolyne. My time was not very good as I plodded the long uphill x 2, and held myself back on the return downhills. Great work by the organisers and course volunteers.

Thursday at training
Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, October 18, 2019 with
A freezing cold change came through while we were on the cross country track training - the temperature dropped by ten degrees, the rain swept through, a gale from the west stopped us in our tracks, and with the wind chill it was probably zero degrees. Up until then we did some kilometre intervals, I totalled a satisfactory 9k. Present were Phil, Don, Lisa, Jennie, Brownie, Celina, Jacob, Jen, Isaac and me. Lisa took photos including a double rainbow.

...and still carrying a few extra kilos, as you can see. In fact, I weighed in this morning somewhat higher than I have for a while. Today's time: 23:37. Room for improvement: lots. Venue: Ginninderra. My next 4 weeks' venues: hopefully Yass, then Wagi Bridge, then Ginninderra, then Dunedin. If all goes to plan.

Thursday night training
Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, October 11, 2019 with
It was back to Stromlo Forest Park on Thursdays. Plenty of other runners and cyclists about, on an evening which turned quite cool. A 1k warmup, then dynamic stretches and drills with speedySusan, then 1k intervals with recovery-of-your choice. Present were Susan with Mya, Brownie, Jen, Paul Q, Michael, Yelena and me. As expected, Handlebar wasn't open yet, I'm guessing next week. I am also guessing that numbers will build up. Anyway, I am back training at Stromlo this Sunday as well, and I will probably join some of the speedygeese there for a jog.

A Monday and a public holiday and a beautiful day for doing other things brought the usual reduction in numbers, but nine of us fronted at Parliament House for our first daylight saving session, most enjoyable. I ran 10k and Colin and Shane ran 400m intervals, while we ran two teams over 400m relay repeats: Jen, Giles and Mick; Jennie, Yelena and Deborah. A loop on the west side incorporating that hill.
Some dislike Mondays, not me though.
This week, Thursdays relocate to Stromlo Forest Park.
