Stromlo Running Festival this Sunday

I will be out there having a look, and probably run 12k or so around the back of Stromlo where I may or may not see some of the runners. Arriving before 7:00am to see the 30k runners away. Parking could be limited within the park, so arriving a bit earlier again as a precaution.

Training at Stromlo yesterday

A good day for running, albeit still quite windy. It was a training session we do every now and then, 6 x 500m hill loops. Participating were: Jennie, Celina, Jacob, Yelena, Rohan, Colin, Jen, Isaac, Dave, Ann, and Lisa, while I did the whole session too. Also, Tim and Jacob G came and said hello and were doing their own training.

The hills of Wagi Bridge parkrun!

Today I negotiated the hills (and strong wind) really well and even finished with very even splits, to run 13th in 23:44. This took a big slice off the M70 record, ~6 minutes from memory. Hmm, having Friday off did no harm.



Another speedygeese Cameron ran 11th. I nearly ran him down at the half way mark but the next uphill sorted me out.

Thursday evening training at Stromlo

Some of us ran 3x1k with a 1k jog, while some did a rebel run. But present in all were Rohan, Jennie, Jacob, Celina, Tim, Ann, Mike L'P, Brownie, Jen, Isaac, Dave and me. And where is all this wind coming from?

I'm wearing the new speedygeese buff... It does keep the ears warm.

Here is a message from our President Peter Thomson:
Canberra Times Fun Run 10 November
  Thanks to all the people who have volunteered or will be pacers at the Canberra Times Fun Run (CTFR).  All up we have over 60 people helping out at the Fun Run.  The Club relies on people volunteering and I am really pleased we have been able to fill all the volunteer roles.
 Best of luck to the people in the Club’s CTFR Training Group – may you all finish with a smile!   
 I like to encourage all people who are running in the CTFR to wear Club singlets or shirts.   To assist this, we are clearing our current stock of the Club shirts and singlets for only $10!  
Committee matters
 Congratulations to Paul Mahoney who was formally appointed by the Club Committee as Chair of the 2020 Capital to Coast Sub-Committee and also appointed as the Race Director for the 2020 Race Director.
  We are seeking someone to Chair the 2020 Half Marathon sub-committee and to be the Race Director for the 2020 Half Marathon.  If you are interested in either or both of these roles please contact me.
 Jo Legge-Wilkinson has been doing some great work on merchandise and the plan is that there will be new club shirts with an updated club design available in the next few months.
Competition
The monthly Jogalong is on this Sunday in Weston Park starting at 9am. There is a 1.6km for young  children and a 3km and 6km for older females.

 The Spring Series starts next Tuesday (Melbourne Cup day) at 6:15 pm at the Boathouse. You can choose between the 2 km or the 5 km races.  This first event of the 2019 Spring Series is the 100th Spring Series event.  I particularly want to congratulate and thank Dave Osmond who has overseen the Spring Series since before our club started.    Also, special mention to Jim White who has run in 99 Spring Series events to date.

Annual Meeting
Our Club annual meeting will be held on Monday 18 November at the Aquatic Recreation Centre in Yarralumla at 6pm. While most of the committee are standing again, there are a few vacancies. If you are  interested in contributing to the Club organisation, please let us know. Peter Thomson, or any of the current committee, would be happy to answer any questions you might have about what is involved. The 2019 agenda and minutes of the 2018 annual meeting were at the end of last week's email. Also, our Winter Series awards will be presented at the meeting.

2020 membership can now be taken out at https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=36232 Fees are $30 for Under 18,  $55 for individuals and $85 for families and for new members cover them to 31 December 2020. Please renew your membership before the end of 2019.

Monday evening speedygeese training

We ran a 700m "figure 8" loop with two uphills, 6 times.... and some did 5 pushupsx5 as well. Participating were Patrick (new), Mick, Ewen, Richard, Jennie, George, Gwen, Sév, James, Ruth, Trevor, Nathan, Rae, Narelle, Emily (new), Dave, Jen, Deborah and me. Weather was fine, coolish breeze, perfect for running and for standing around chatting afterwards.

Thursday evening training at Stromlo Forest Park

There were Mike L'Pirate with an armful of speedygeese buffs, Ruth, Paul Q, Tim (new), Dave, Jen, Isaac, Jennie, Andrew, Celina, Kevin, Lisa, Colin, and me, and we ran 8x300m with 100m walk recovery. It wasn't overly hot but a refreshing drink afterwards was most welcome. I also saw Thach and Ryan out there training, among many others.
