Sunday 26 November speedygeese long run report [Dave]: Almost a clean sweep for Speedygeese in the Mt Stromlo 10.5k Lightning Strike ⚡trail race this morning – 1st 40-49yo female and 2nd female overall (Narelle with a great time of 48:28), 1st 50-59yo female (Mhairi, of course, in 54:03), 1st 50-59yo male (me[Dave] 47:29) and 1st 60-69yo male (Ewen 58:46). Narelle the gazelle took off like a rocket and it was a close call between Narelle and I, but I managed to catch her around the 9.8k mark. Obviously neither of us worked hard enough, with both throwing in a 6k afternoon run around 5 minute pace.
There were numerous geese flying at Stromlo today – Shuji did the 54k in 5:35:07, Jeff 4:57:52 and Ross 5:42:14. Amazing effort on a hot day guys. 😯
In the 32k Jinny did 3:22:59, Adam 3:50:08 and William 3:04:05. Lisa and Kerron also finished the32k. Jennie finished the 10k in 1:11:27 and Isaac in the 10k was lucky enough to get an interview with Deek at the end.
Sarah-Jayne couldn’t run today but her two boys did the 2.5k. Gus came second in his age group in his first event and Ryan wants to do the 10k next time.
Shiree and Martin were on T Shirt duty.
Standing under the speakers while Deek yelled out the commentary made up for Jen’s absence. Oh, and congratulations to Mhairi for being the first female in the male toilets (before official permission was granted by Deek). 😱Speaking of Mhairi, she wasn’t looking too good before the start – more like seedy geese than Speedygeese (credit for joke goes to Andrew). I'm sure the bottle of wine she won will fix any problems. 😂
Thanks to Sandeep, Graeme and Pieta for dropping in after their long runs and Speedy Geoff (after his short run with Andy) for giving support.
See you next Sunday for a long slow run (if not at Monday’s or Thursday’s speedwork training). 🤓
Monday 27 November at Parliament House: Storms cleared in the afternoon and I jogged down to the “ramp” to look after a session of 15 x 150m up the hill on 2 minutes. Warrick and Thomas missed us at the start and arrived late, but participating were Narelle, Dave (short runs), Ruth, Jennie, Isaac, Giles, Hayden (new), Bronwyn, Ewen, Rae, Vanessa, Sandeep, Pieta and Chris.
On Thursday 30 November back at Woden Track: Brownie, Jen, Isaac, Sandeep, Dave and I ran some intervals over 350m & 175m in the shade of the trees next to the cemetery. The earlier warm-up also included Ewen, Jacob, Ruth and Margaret who went on to compete on the track.
Training is on hold this Monday because of the dinner that evening but will resume next Thursday at Woden for the penultimate (i.e. second-last) time.
Enjoy your weekend!
