See Where We Went, 24 May 2014 - Southampton to Portsmouth

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, October 15, 2015 with
This is the last of the "See Where we Went" series. All stories have now been published. For the full set - http://geoffmoore.blogspot.com.au/search/label/See%20Where%20We%20Went .
If only we had more time, to explore all these places! But we had a strict ship departure time, so we had to zoom along.

The morning of the 24th May 2014 we walked from our motel room down to the docks to see what was there. Several very large cruise ships - much larger than the one we would be sailing on - were in harbour.

So we went in close...

Then we left our motel and walked to the station in Southampton to catch a train to Portsmouth, not far away.

Arriving in Portsmouth we took a taxi straight to one of the very many Portsmouth ship termini where we waited to board our little cruise ship for the next eleven days' trip. We hadn't seen much of Portsmouth - or of Southampton, for that matter.

And we boarded our ship.

Here we go!

Our cabin. Wow!

And off we go!

Many other ships af all kinds in Portsmouth harbour

Leaving land ... smooth sailing it was, despite slightly stormy looking skies..

And around the Isle of Wight and off to the west we go.

Do view the rest of our trip, already published!
The End.

See Where We Went 23 May 2014 - Plymouth to Southampton via Weymouth

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 with
We travelled by plane, train and ship. But on this day, we took a bus ride to see what we could see.

Not us.

Is this food stop in the US? One would think so.

Green green everything is so green.

A short stop at Weymouth.

Our bus detoured away from the main highway for miles. Because of crawling traffic there.

Back onto the highway, heading into Southampton and our stop for the night.

speedygeese racing and training

Posted by speedygeoff on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 with
My Plan A is to return to racing and training from Thursday this week, by attending the track meet at Woden on the 15th and running in as many races as the old body can handle.
The kind of pattern I am looking at is as follows.

Mondays Parliament House main training session with the larger speedygeese group.
Tuesdays a long run, probably at Stromlo Forest Park.
Wednesdays an easy recovery run.
Thursdays track races or time trials or tempo runs.
Fridays an easy recovery run.
Saturdays a parkrun somewhere, trying to work towards that sub 20 minute goal.
Sundays a long run, probably from Stromlo Forest Park.

See you at one or more of these in the very near future?
I will do gym sessions Mondays; Wednesdays if not racing Thursday; Fridays if not racing Saturday.
Hoping injuries stay away. Another scenario:

If you are looking for racing and training summaries, there is a bit of a backlog, all will appear next week!

As I type this post (in advance before I go away) Andrew, Colin, Dave and Jen have cracked the 20 minutes for 5000m (and Sarah-Jayne when she was running with us); Thommo, Pieta, Julia, myself are not that far off (and there may be others wanting to get there: Bronwyn? Isaac? Susan? Warrick? Ewen?) So this pattern is one to work towards that will help us achieve it. Will 2016 be the year of breakthrough?

See Where We Went 22 May 2014 - Tamar Valley and Calstock

Posted by speedygeoff on Sunday, October 11, 2015 with
We took the train from Plymouth to travel up the Tamar Valley and spend the day in Calstock, a small village in Cornwall. From Calstock, after a brilliant pub lunch, we went on a long, extremely steep, and very rainy walk along narrow roads, sure we were lost, to the next station up the line, which took us much longer than we thought it would and was definitely not "one mile away". We only just caught the last train back!

Jenny has family who came from Calstock, hence the interest.

As usual, this is only a very small selection of the many photographs I took that day.
