Posted by speedygeoff on Sunday, February 26, 2017 with
Held yesterday. And it was a surprise!

Geoff Vines, Julie Hill-Webber (Gwen's daughter), Margaret McSpadden, Peter McSpadden, Gwen Vines.

Margaret tells me she is 4 minutes older than Gwen.

That morning Julie, Margaret, Gwen and Ron Vines enjoyed a run at the Tuggeranong Parkrun's 4th anniversary. Margaret set a new W70 record there.

Recent speedygeese training

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 with
Thursday 16 February Jen, Isaac, Garry, Steph S, and I ran random intervals from the Rose Garden side of Parliament House.

Sunday 19 February Andrew and I ran at Stromlo Forest Park; sighted doing a long run were Dave, Ewen, Giles, Bronwyn, amongst others.

Monday 20 February was a cooler evening at last and at Parliament House we ran 8 very hilly 400m loops on 4 minutes; Ewen and I ran early, my first early 8k for a very long time, then for the main session we had Andy, Caroline, Christopher, Colin, Dave, David, Ewen, Garry, me, Isaac, Jen, Mick, Pieta, Rae, Sandeep, Susan, Tom, Vanessa, and Warrick participating.

Today I did two one-hour exercise classes in a row and pushed the pace.

This is me at the end of two intense hours. Tentatively, though, I think my calf/achilles problems are nearly fixed.

Stronger

Song of the week: Stronger, by Delirious
From https://youtu.be/gm3Z4Cy0Gvw

We're getting stronger every day
We're getting braver in every way
Hallelujah, here we come

We're getting stronger every day
Push through the waves that fall our way
Hallelujah, here we come
We're much stronger when we're one
Hallelujah, here we come

Chorus
Oh, I love You from the depths of my heart
And nothing here will tear us apart
Everything's beautiful with You
Everything's beautiful when You invade my life
And I'm living just to say that I love You

We're getting closer every day
Chasing the dreams that heaven gave
Hallelujah, here we come, yeah

We're getting closer every day
Into Your arms I'm here to stay
We're much stronger when we're one
Hallelujah here we come

Chorus
Oh, I love You from the depths of my heart
And nothing here will tear us apart
Everything's beautiful with You
Everything's beautiful when You invade my life
And I'm living just to say that I love You

Yes I love You
Oh, I love You now
Oh, yes, I love you

On Thursday 9 February it was very hot; we ran up to 6 x 360m loops from the Rose Garden with a loop’s jog recovery. Participating were Andrew, Brendan, me , Isaac, Jen, Sandeep and Stephanie.

The morning of Sunday 12 February Andrew and I trained at Stromlo Forest Park;

On Monday 13 February Sandeep ran early; the main session was a new kind of hill session, running down the 100m hill and turning back up to the top; 20 on 90. Participating were Andy, Caroline, Colin, David, Ewen, Garry, Giles, Isaac, Jen, Mick, Pieta, Sandeep and Vanessa, while I mainly supervised.

And here's a great photo of Bron***.

Vertigo

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, February 13, 2017 with
This is my Song of Week: "Vertigo", by U2.
From https://youtu.be/98W9QuMq-2k

I used to suffer from terrible vertigo, to the extent that I couldn't even run over footbridges and had real trouble crossing, say, Commonwealth Avenue Bridge on foot, but that's all gone now.

The cure was glasses with a special correcting lens that adjusted for a weak muscle in the left eye.

...were on ...
Thursday 2 February at Parliament House: I ran early: Jen, Isaac and Brendan ran 8x400m with a jog averaging 300m; Thea, Fiona, and Stephanie (new) ran 4 of the 400m then did 15 minutes of drills, I supervised.

Monday 6 February at Parliament House, where relay teams of 3 ran around a 210m+ loop, for ~25 minutes. Andy, Christopher, Colin, David, Ewen, me, Helen, Isaac, Jen, Mick, Rae, Ruth, Sandeep, Tom, Warrick were there. No new people this time. It looks like young Tom is enjoying running with us oldies. Certainly we enjoy running with him.

Eight Days a Week

Posted by speedygeoff on Monday, February 06, 2017 with
The movie "The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years" is one of the very best movies ever.

Song of Week: The Beatles, Eight Days A Week
From https://youtu.be/JELULTSzjWw

And then there's my version of the song. I had been quite sore, checked strava and discovered I only ran 8k the week before last. I had to write a song to celebrate that.

Eight k's a week
Oh, I need more running
Guess you know it's true
Hope you need to train, mate
Just like I need to

Chase me, race me, scold me, push me
I ain't got nothing left, mate
Eight k’s a week

Must run every day, girl
A streak is on my mind
One thing I can say, girl
I’d love a faster time

Chase me, race me, scold me, push me
I ain't got nothing left, girl
Eight k’s a week

Eight k’s a week
I have to
Eight k’s a week
Is not enough to get me there

Ooh I need to go, son
Get out every day
Can you meet me now, son
We need to jog today

Chase me, race me, scold me, push me
I ain't got nothing left, son
Eight k’s a week
Eight k’s a week
Eight k’s a week

Speedygeese training and post-session fish & chips

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, February 01, 2017 with
Our most recent training sessions were on
Thursday 26 January at Yarralumla Oval up from the dog park – it was Australia Day so we avoided our usual venues in the Parliamentary triangle - I could barely run so supervised - participating were Andy, Bron, Colin, Dave, Ewen, Giles, Isaac, Jen, Thea, Jennie - they ran 5 x 400m on about 5 minutes, with a lap jog in between.

And on Monday 30 January back at Parliament House we ran ten normal hills, then reversed procedure and ran eight down and up from the top, with Colin, Dave, David, myself, Isaac, Jen, Mick, Rae, Ruth, Sandeep, Vanessa, Warrick, Tom, Helen, and Unknown Runner (new) participating.

Afterwards we went to Snapper (for the first time) for fish and chips by the lake: a good turn-out, for the record Dave, David, Me, Mick, Rae, Ruth, Sandeep, Vanessa, Warrick, Tom, Jennie, and George (new). And what a lovely evening it was.

Here's somewhere I would like to have a run - in the Royal Parks Half Marathon, through London.
