I ran when it was zero degrees this morning.

Posted by speedygeoff on Sunday, May 29, 2016 with
Or under.
And felt very comfortable.
Actually it is the best I have felt running for a long time.
Did two long sleeved tees over my short sleeved tee help?
Or was it the Crows pom-pom hat, the thicker than usual gloves, and the track suit pants?
The grass was dry despite the pea soup fog, and there was little if any wind.
Ideal conditions!

    My third car

Posted by speedygeoff on Friday, May 27, 2016 with
A 1969 Datsun sedan, pale blue. This I bought after arriving in Canberra, starting work here, and saving enough money for a deposit. I recall my father telling me he thought the 1600 was too powerful a car, but I bought it anyway. Perhaps as a Holden man he would have preferred I bought another Torana.

    Starting to run longer again

Posted by speedygeoff on Thursday, May 26, 2016 with
After an injury ridden first few months of the year .. five injuries? Or was it six? .. I am getting back into longer running again .. without trying to do too much too soon. So after a Sunday of 11k* and a Monday of 14k* I did a rare Tuesday run after an hour in the gym, doing loops at my old training venue at Charnwood.

Today I will probably run long from 4:00pm at Dickson, although I haven't arranged to meet anyone there, before we do our track intervals.

*distances aren't exact. Since using Garmin Connect instead of logging my runs in a spreadsheet, I no longer feel it necessary to complete an exact number of kms.

    speedygeese training

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 with
On Thursday at Dickson running 600m intervals - Dave, Susan, Jen, Sandeep and Tori were there.

Then on Sunday Bron (two 10k laps) and I (one 10k lap) enjoyed a long run at Stromlo.

Monday at Parliament House, Jen and I ran 8k early, then for the main training session of hill sprints and drills followed by 200m reps on the oval were Andy, Dale, Dave, Pieta, Rae and Sandeep. Afterwards ten of us enjoyed dinner at the Yacht Club: Andy, Dave, Jen, Isaac, Laura, Daniel, Pieta, Terri, Sandeep & me.

Ruth despite being mauled by a dog last week, and spending two days in hospital as a result, is now in Spain with two legs of travel to go, on her way to supporting her husband's World Duathlon tilt. Also it was her 66th birthday yesterday as she departed Canberra.

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 with
Last Thursday at Dickson I jogged around and Colin, Gabe, Dave, Roger and Sandeep ran 300m intervals, teams of 3 and 2 switching after 20 minutes.

On Sunday Andrew and I jogged around and Isaac ran long with Dave, while Jen attended but I think she stayed in the car.

On Monday at Parliament House Dave, Jen, Isaac and I ran early. Then at 5:30pm Dave and I met up with Colin, Rae, Ruth, Sandeep, Susan and a late Christopher to run 8 lots of 200m runs on 2:00, followed by 10 minutes running up and down the south east big hill.

Next Monday 23 May we will go off to the Yacht Club after training for one of our occasional informal meals there. All are welcome!

    Happy Birthday Pieta, 43 today!

We'll see what the body is like on the day.

    ACTVAC 8k Cross Country Championships
Being held this year at Stromlo Forest Park on Saturday 18 June.
In 2016 the distance for ACTVAC and other Masters entrants will be 8k for all men and for all women.

Do not be put off by the word championships! They are for all members. Register now at this link:

    AND ....

    >>drum roll please<<
    Sat. 18 June 2016 - 8am

I think I will be running Burley Griffin parkrun #2, but not #1.
After all, the cross country championship date was announced first, by a long shot.

    speedygeese training

Posted by speedygeoff on Wednesday, May 04, 2016 with
Last Thursday at Dickson I ran long (20k altogether). For training at 5:30pm a group of six ran 6 x 600+ in relays of 2. We had Colin, Dave, Maria O’R, Maria S (new), and Rohan participating.

On Sunday at Stromlo the rain stopped at exactly 7:30am, Dave and Pieta ran long, I jogged on the grass, chatted to Amanda, Ken & Katie, and watched Vanessa as she started a long mountain bike race.

On Monday I ran early then donned beanie and gloves for the first time this year which did the job nicely. Doing 6 x 15 seconds then 12 x 30 seconds on the grass were Caroline, Christopher, Colin, Dale, Dave B2, Dave C, Mick, Pieta, Ruth, Warrick & me. Birthday champagne was shared afterwards (happy birthday me, 68 today).

To celebrate my birthday today I will run at BBQ Stakes shortly. Haven't been there for a couple of years probably, although old men sometimes have unreliable memory. However...
