Michelle Wells 3:31.09 marathon pb
From Michelle: “Wellsy has nailed the Auckland 2009 marathon - with a personal best time of 3:31:09! I finished 9th in my age group & placed 36th overall in the women (overall placing was 295th out of 2,234 finishers! Just to put into perspective top male finished in 2:31 and top woman in 2:49! It was the toughest marathon course I've done so far- 15kms of rolling hills culminating in a climb over Auckland harbour bridge. And then a few more hills up to 20 km mark, from there to the finish in the city it was dead flat. Am very happy with my time as I did the best I could do under such hilly conditions. I could not have gone any faster but I ran a strong, consistent pace the whole way. Conditions were absolutely perfect even if we were running into a stiff sea breeze for the last 12 km to the finish. Apart from slight tummy trouble at 28km I held up well. Roll on the wine tasting and gourmet food tour of Waiheke island tomorrow. Wooohooo!”

Rob and Roger

Rob and Roger moving forward at the O'Connor Ridge handicap. Actually they had good excuses what with marathons (Rob ran Rottnest), Orroral Valley runs (Roger), and the like.

Rottnest was hot hot hot. I mean really hot. Of 124 finishers, Rob ran 78th in 4:11. Only the winner broke 3 hours.

Today in Canberra it is also hot. Just hot. Bring water to Parliament House tonight. I feel dehydrated already; I should have drunk more [water] last night, and I meant to but forgot. I will try and make up for it today.
