I was at St Mary's cross country course in the mid 1960s, watching the great Ron Clarke win the Australian Cross Country championships by a very big margin. He was awesome!

St Mary's was next door to Adelaide's Flinders University where I studied from 1966 to 1968. While I was there at Flinders, I went on a couple of training runs with John Farrington; John was on staff. Later when I ran my first marathon, which was conducted at Richmond, NSW, it was John Farrington who won it; again by a very big margin.
