Speedygeese training summary
On Thursday 15 June at Parliament House I was reduced to walking, Brownie turned up mainly to pick up a speedygeese t-shirt, while running intervals up and down the west side were Andrew, Colin, Isaac, Jen, Jennie, Sandeep and Sarah.
On Sunday 18 June the distance group reports “A fairly subdued speedygeese long run this morning, with some of the usual stalwarts missing or tired after yesterday’s YMCA 16k race (Jen, Sandeep and Ewen) and Kowen Trail half marathon (me[Dave]), and a couple of others just having a sleep in after a big night (Susan and Mhairi I’m told, but that’s just heresay). No injuries or getting lost this time (although a couple of times I had to get them back on track – don’t say anything Bronwyn ;-) ), and no clambering over and posing on big boys (and girls) toys. Just a pleasant run from Mt Stromlo to Molonglo river and back. Narelle and Sami took off like rabbits, accompanied by newbie Mandi (welcome Mandi), closely followed by Thach, while Bronwyn set a steady pace and Bron and I [Dave] were the “sweepers”. Most of us did the 16k loop, with Thach (20k) and Narelle (23k) doing a bit extra at the end. It was a bit of a struggle today and the quads were happy to see the end approaching. Most of us enjoyed the coffee and calories at "The Meating Place", Weston Creek, while we discussed the various views on tapering for Narelle’s Gold Coast marathon in two weeks.”
Monday 19 June at Parliament House: I was absent and 2 teams of 3 ran 3 lots of 4 x 200m hard, 200m jog. Colin, Jen, Jennie, Kylie, Peter Burke. and Sandeep, while Dave and Pieta trotted around.

dig down - new by Muse - awesome.
Song of the week: "Dig Down", by Muse
From https://youtu.be/b4ozdiGys5g
"Dig Down"
When hope and love has been lost
And you fall to the ground
You must find a way
When the darkness descends
And you're told it's the end
You must find a way
When God decides to look the other way
And a clown takes the throne
We must find a way
Face the firing squad
Against all the odds
You will find a way
Dig down
Dig down
Dig down
And find faith
When you're close to the edge
With a gun to your head
You must find a way
When friends are thin on the ground
And they try to divide us
We must find a way
We have entered the fray
And we will not obey
We must find a way
Yeah
Dig down
Dig down
Dig down
And find faith
When they've left you for dead
(Dig down)
And you can only see red
(Dig down)
You must find a way
Dig down
Dig down
Dig down
Find faith
We won't let them divide
(Dig down)
We will never abide
(Dig down)
We will find a way

Speedygeese training summary
On Thursday 08 June at Parliament House Helen (new) and Joe (new) visited without joining in – yet. I supervised a session of 8 x 400s on the grass near the upper flagpoles, with Colin, Dave, Isaac, Jen, Jennie, Brownie, Ruth and Tori participating.
On Sunday 11 June Andrew and I jogged at Stromlo. I didn't get far before I had to stop, too sore. Meanwhile the distance group reports “Another successful, but cold and foggy, speedygeese long run done and dusted (around the Arboretum and the river). Sarah and Dave started early with a 5k warmup before meeting the others at 8am. Narelle was our navigator today. Having run the course several times, there was no chance of her getting us lost. We did have a few minutes of anxiety when we thought we lost Kerron and Bron, but it turned out they weren’t lost, just cruising. Narelle put in a big 33k by adding on a loop around LBG west basin, at a great average pace of 5.08, in preparation for the Gold Coast marathon. Dave knocked out 27k at 5.23 pace, adding a couple of fast ks at the end. Others averaged around 5.30 to 6.15 pace. Graeme did 22k and Sandeep 21, while Susan, Jen, Sarah and Bron finished with around 20k. Mhairi completed 17k, while Ewen and Isaac chalked up about 15. Kerron, on her debut run with us, put in a solid 13k. Most of us hobbled to the Arboretum cafĂ© to thaw out and refuel.”
Monday 12 June at Parliament House, a good turnout for a public holiday, we ran ramp sprints, 15 x 160m on 2 minutes. I supervised while running were Bill, Colin, Dave, Giles, Jen, Jennie, Jessica, Peter B, Pieta, Sandeep, Sarah, Tom, Warrick, and Andrew Smith (new).
Today I have been banned from running until my calf improves, so future training sessions at Parliament House will be in walking/shuffling distance from our cars! Probably.

Hungry: Anathema
My Song of the Week this week is "Anathema", by Hungry, from the album "White Water Emotions".
Hungry was a group from Belconnen which included my daughter Mon on keys and backing vocals, and my other daughter's husband Wes on bass. Plus three other talented people (Graeme vocals and writer, Euan guitar, Amanda drums).
I uploaded this to YouTube the other day, at https://youtu.be/yX4beubGk4E, and have to share it.

Cookie blitzing Queanbeyan parkrun
Today at Queanbeyan Amanda Cook was the first female to finish - again - and ran 22:03, just one second outside her best time of 22:02 which she ran a week earlier. And just two seconds behind third outright on the day. She has mightily improved, and what would she do on a good day on a fast course?
A very fit Cookie resplendent in her speedygeese top.
The Queanbeyan parkrun course has been officially rated as "challenging".

Speedygeese training summary
On Thursday 01 June at Parliament House we ran some 2 person continuous relays over 300m, then some 3 person relays over 200m. I supervised, Christopher was seen walking, running were Brendan, Colin, Craig, Dave, Giles, Isaac, Jen, Brownie, Rohan, Ruth, Sandeep, and Sarah.
Sunday 04 June the speedygeese long run saw a turnout of 10 fine athletes. It was designed by Giles and covered Little Black Mountain and Mount Painter (hillier than usual). Jen provided navigation assistance. It’s probably getting a bit monotonous to talk about getting lost, so let’s just say we needed directions before we reached the 1k mark (see photo) and split into two groups before meeting up a couple of kms later. Sandeep, Bron and Sarah (with a sore ankle) did the short course (Little Black Mountain - around 11km). Susan added a few kms to finish with around 15. Jen, Nigel and Thach (new recruit) did about 18k while Giles and Dave did some extra kms at the end to total 21.1k (and 620m of elevation). Apart from Sarah’s ankle there were no injuries. This week’s shenanigans were limited to a few chin-ups on the Mount Painter trig.
Directions please?
Monday 05 June at Parliament House, running 200s 300s and 400s were Colin, Isaac, Jen, Peter, Pieta, Warrick, Tori and Kylie (new). Dave jogged around at a slow marathon pace, I jogged around supervising even walking a bit, and Christopher was again seen walking.
